Within the open polder panorama of dikes and small islands close to Rotterdam, the Terphouse is located as a sturdy construction on a mound within the panorama. The means used to make the home sustainable and prepared for extra excessive local weather circumstances turned the principle parts of the design, most obvious within the attribute cover and underground stage with the protruding patios.



The home is dug within the synthetic mound on the island, situating the residing areas on the primary stage and the bedrooms and secondary rooms underground. This makes that from the residing areas the open panorama is perceived over the dikes. By folding the panorama round the home, a reference to the backyard is made doable and the home is perceived as a modest strong within the panorama.


The local weather within the lowest stage is moderated by the encircling soil, whereas the protruding patios present for ample daylight and an intimate environment. On the highest stage, the patio constructions the sequence of areas and gives visible relationships between the rooms.
